Martijn Pluim started his career at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in 1999. In 2005 he continued his work at the European Commission where he covered migration, asylum and border management issues. Mr. Pluim returned to ICMPD in 2007. Between 2010 and 2016, he acted as the Director for the Eastern Dimension, Irregular migration, Borders and Trafficking in Human Beings, Research and Communication, overseeing all capacity-building projects in Eastern Europe and Asia as well as ICMPD’s support activities for the migration dialogues along the Eastern Migratory Route. He was responsible for the strategy of the organisation regarding activities in the area of the fight against trafficking in human beings, illegal migration and return, and border management and visa. Presently, as Director for Migration Dialogues and Cooperation, he is in charge of an operational projects portfolio of over 75 million Euros covering ICMPD’s migration dialogues, capacity building and technical assistance activities in all thematic areas of migration.
